Grace Found Them

Ten people who were sure they were too far gone — and the God who moved toward them anyway. For anyone who suspects grace is for other people.

  1. Day 1 · about 5 min

    Luke 15:11–32

We're starting ten days on people grace caught up with. Jesus tells this story to a mixed crowd — some who felt far from God, some who felt sure they'd done everything right. Watch the father closely. He goes out twice, and notice how far the son gets in his rehearsed speech before the father interrupts.

  2. Day 2 · about 5 min

    Joshua 2:1–14; Matthew 1:5–6

Israel is camped east of the Jordan River, about to enter the land God promised them. Joshua sends two spies ahead to look over the walled city of Jericho — and they end up spending the night in the house of a woman named Rahab, a prostitute, an outsider by every measure of her day. Watch what she already knows about Israel's God, and notice where her name turns up centuries later in Matthew's list of Jesus's ancestors.

  3. Day 3 · about 5 min

    2 Samuel 12:1–13; Psalm 51:1–12

David is king of Israel, at the height of his power — and he has just done the worst thing he ever did: he took another man's wife, Bathsheba, and arranged for her husband Uriah to die in battle. Months pass. Then God sends a prophet named Nathan to him, and Nathan opens not with an accusation but with a story about a lamb. Watch what David does the moment he sees himself in it. Then read Psalm 51, the prayer he wrote afterward — words countless people have borrowed ever since.

  4. Day 4 · about 5 min

    2 Chronicles 33:1–16

Chronicles walks through Judah's kings one by one, tallying up each reign. Manasseh gets the longest reign in the book — and the worst record in it. Read slowly through the list of what he did, then watch closely for the moment the story turns, and notice what God does with a prayer from a man like this.

  5. Day 5 · about 5 min

    Isaiah 1:18; Isaiah 43:1–4; Isaiah 55:6–9; Micah 7:18–19; Psalm 103:8–14

So far this track has followed people who were found by grace. Today we step back from the stories and listen to God describe himself — five short pieces from the prophets Isaiah and Micah, and one psalm. Watch for the pictures he reaches for: colors, water, distance, a father with a child. And notice that the invitation comes first, before anyone has cleaned themselves up.

  6. Day 6 · about 5 min

    John 4:4–26; John 4:39–42

Jesus takes the road through Samaria — a region most Jewish travelers of His day went out of their way to avoid. He stops at a well at the sixth hour, roughly noon, the hottest part of the day and an odd time to be hauling water. A woman comes alone, and He speaks first. Watch how long the conversation runs, and notice what she does the moment it ends.

  7. Day 7 · about 5 min

    Luke 23:32–49; Romans 10:9–13

This track has been following people grace caught up with — often at the worst moment of their lives. Today we're at the cross, where Jesus hangs between two condemned men, and the crowd keeps shouting at him to save himself. Watch the second criminal closely: he has hours to live, nothing to offer, and no time to fix a single thing he's done. Then Paul spells out, in a few plain lines, how anyone is saved.

  8. Day 8 · about 5 min

    Luke 22:54–62; John 21:15–19

Two scenes, weeks apart. First, a courtyard fire the night Jesus is arrested: Peter has promised he'd never leave, and now strangers keep asking if he was with Jesus. Then, a fire on a beach after the resurrection, breakfast finished, Jesus asking Peter a question — and asking it again, and again. Watch the counting.

  9. Day 9 · about 5 min

    Acts 9:1–19

So far this track has met people who came looking for Jesus. Today's man is doing the opposite: Saul is riding toward Damascus with legal papers in hand, planning to arrest followers of Jesus (early on they were called "the Way"). Watch what stops him — and watch the ordinary believer named Ananias who is asked to walk into the same room as the man who came to arrest him.

  10. Day 10 · about 5 min

    Romans 5:1–11; Ephesians 2:1–10

For nine days we've watched grace find particular people, one story at a time. Today Paul steps back and names the pattern underneath all of them, in two letters written to ordinary churches. Watch the small words about timing — "while," "even when," "at just the right time" — and notice where each sentence says the initiative came from. (When Paul says "justified," he means God declaring us in the right with him, settled and no longer on trial.)
